30 Hilarious Print Advertisements

Amazing collection from spyrestudios.com/hilarious-print-ads/.

The printed format, whether it is for magazines, newspapers or billboards, sets specific challenges for ad designers. An idea or message must be communicated simply and swiftly, it must be eye-catching enough to grab the viewer’s attention and convey the important information in an instant. When a print designer employs humour to carry this information, the result can be become a visual ‘one-liner’, a joke that speaks the message the ad intends. This post brings together 30 hilarious print ads that combine great imagery with cracking comedy.

Today is an off day…

Tired.

Always tired, in the morning or in the afternoon, just tired.

This morning i woke up thinking to myself what a great day it was going to be, reluctantly want to. I tried to sleep just a few minuets more, nice warm blanket and the nice white noise from our small fan to keep me cool and passed out from the noisy neighbors. Man they always have to either chant in tongues or stomp up the stairs to their apartment..

Or best of yet, the neighbor who is always smashed and yells and shit like that at her cigarette, dumb bitch.

Anyways, i begun drinking Instant coffee, a word to the wise, read the instructions. My god its awful when you put a few spoonfuls in your cup and take a gulp, liquid paint is probably the best thought of it i can think of right now. Just used a teaspoon and it was good to go.

Did my first real class in painting today.. it was tedious and boring. Only because we had to learn about a 10 minuet long video about different artists, i know its part of being in an art class, but damn it was boring, just the strangest thing i have seen, like the look on my face would describe as: what the fuck am i watching, with all these strange sounds and awful music, plus the teacher is always, who is that artist? who and who most of the time. But i am supposed to learn this stuff, what would it benefit?.

I almost dropped the painting class for something else, but i figured if i have the paint, why let it go to waste when i could hopefully get a passing grade in the end.. hopefully.

After class i was and am still tired as of writing this, possibly just because of too much sugar earlier today, sugar has a reverse effect on me sometimes, i almost want to drink a cup of coffee but i know what happens when i do that, sleep at 3am… not too fun in my opinion, especially when you have to work in the mornings…

After installing Windows 7 i found that i still had photoshop in the folder windows.old so i am transferring it to my program files, hopefully i can get it to work, installing it takes forever. Then the next thing to re-install is Cinema 4d, make some good images again, hopefully.

So there you have another day, and just over 400 words, go me!

Spring semester 2010…..

Oh dread the English class..

Why is this class so hard to do for me, possibly because of how boring it is?

Compared to art class last semester, this is going to be a slow process. Altho i might get the hang of it, i do have people to help me with it. The writing center is going to be my friend this semester, so i hopefully will get a passing grade and move on the my goal to get a AA degree  then a BA in something, possibly whatever gets the highest paycheck in the end.

I came to the conclusion that Art isn’t going to pay the bills when i have a family to support, if i am good at what “median”, i think that’s what its called, cannot remember, anyways, i am good at and how successful i am. I read in a book that a BA in art usually gets around $35k a year, that’s like a $100 bucks a day… not too bad i think, but i think you can make more working at the grocery store or something.. but what ev’.

I would really like to take more than one art class this semester but i have to take some core classes to advance. Just like any other college student.. ect ect.

Time to scout the net once again to find good tips to use for this damn blog that i pay for.. by the way, try byethost.com to get free hosting, i started there and i loved it so i joined the premium oh oh, use Godaddy.com for a domain name, use retailmenot.com for a coupon to save 10-20% off your order, its good shit lol.

On a second note. I will try to start an new tutorial that i would make on my own. I do have some talent and i will see how i do with it, i have made a tutorial a loooooong time ago but it was full of “um’s” and ramblings. I learned that you are supposed to do the tutorial first, then explain how you did that.

So i am going to start to blog with at least 400 words, unless i am in a hurry and dont know what to write, or its a boring day, one of those amazing days where you sit and dot want to do anything at all but watch tv or play the Xbox. The new tutorial will be in Photoshop CS4 and i hope to be useful.

Till tomorrow.

Check out what i was listening to: Some random techno song that i was listening to, good stuff keeps you moving.

Back to work on projects..

its been a while since i have updated this blg, mosly because of it being put aside for something else, like my life.

i think if i sat down and focused on a project i would get is done. but i see my self focusing on other tings as the xbox i got for xmas, oh what an awesome machine with so many capabilities.

This semester i will start painting class, hope fully i will try to be creative with ideas and such. i will see.

im gong to start to carry my skectch book around to get ideas that could work..

time to sleep.

Poster Design Tips to Attract the Masses

From articlebase.com.

Posters are a great medium for marketers, advertisers and sales people alike. They can be huge, colorful and most importantly, they’re hard to ignore. Have you ever walked into a business meeting with a poster sitting in an easel in the front of the room and not looked? Probably not – posters are hard to ignore!

A well-placed poster can draw in thousands of eyes and can get you hundreds of new customers. Custom posters that are placed in strategic locations, like outside a downtown store in the middle of the sidewalk, can be an inexpensive, yet effective way to garner more customers for your business.

By customizing your posters, you can get your clear and persuasive message out to the public for little money. You can add your logo and interesting graphics, which will make your brand look interesting.

Posters are more customizable than postcards, television ads and many other marketing media, so posters are a great choice for any marketing campaign. Here are some tips for creating a poster that will garner attention:

Use more graphics than text
Use many more images than text to get your message across. Posters are meant to be seen from across a room or across a street. They are not meant to be read up-close, so use text sparingly and make the font huge. Remember the old saying “show, don’t tell”? That’s what your posters should do: use graphics to show your message. Use photos that evoke a certain feeling or a certain idea that you don’t need to explain in words.

Keep it organized
An effective poster is one that can be easily read and understood at first glance. This means you must keep it organized in a logical fashion so that people’s eyes go to the main element first, and then the secondary element and so on. Each element should build on the last element noticed. A poster is not a medium to try to play tricks on people – keep the message clear and avoid text that has double-meanings.

Make your poster seem like something it’s not
You can make your poster seem bigger by using vertical lines and images. Or you can make your images look 3-D, like they’re floating in space. Google “3-D effects” and “posters” to get some ideas. You can make 3-D images in Adobe Photoshop among other graphic design software. There are many graphical elements you can use to add depth and interest to your poster. If you employ a graphic designer or a printing company to help come up with the design, they’ll be able to come up with a bunch of creative ideas to add interest to your poster.

Custom posters are an effective and relatively inexpensive way to get your message to the masses. You can even create a poster in your PJs if you want to – there are plenty of online poster printing companies that can help you create the custom poster that will bring in new customers again and again.

How To Design A Logo

Written by Jacob Cass on Tuesday, January 8, 2008 – 9:00 am
Want to know how to design a logo like a professional and have all the resources you need in just one post? Then this is the post for you… Learn professional logo design in just 5 steps!

1. Learn What A Logo Is & What It Represents

Logo Design

Before you design a logo, you must understand what a logo is, what it represents and what it is supposed to do. A logo is not just a mark – a logo reflects a business’s commercial brand via the use of shape, fonts, colour, and / or images.

A logo is for inspiring trust, recognition and admiration for a company or product and it is our job as designers to create a logo that will do its job.

One must know what a logo is before continuing.

For further Reading on what is a logo check out Wikipedia’s Definition.

2. Know The Rules & Principles Of Logo Design

Logo Design Rules

Now that you know what a logo is supposed to do, and what it should represent you now must learn about what makes a great logo aka; the basic rules and principles of logo design.

1. A logo must be describable
2. A logo must be memorable
3. A logo must be effective without colour
4. A logo must be scalable i.e. effective when just an inch in size

For Further reading on the rules and principles of great logo design I highly recommend to read the logo design tips from Logo Factory before continuing and also the article Why logo design does not cost $5.00.

3. Learn Off Other’s Successes & Mistakes

Logo Mistakes

Successful Logos

Now you know what the rules of logo design are, you can distinguish the difference between a good and a bad logo… By knowing what other logos have succeeded and why they have succeeded gives a great insight into what makes a good logo.

For example, lets look at the classic Nike Swoosh. This logo was created by Caroline Davidson in 1971 for only $35 yet it still a strong, memorable logo, effective without colour and easily scalable. It is simple, fluid and fast and represents the wing in the famous statue of the Greek Goddess of victory, Nike – something perfect for a sporting apparel business. Nike is just one of many great logos, think about other famous brands that you know about and check out their logos – what makes them successful?

For more quality, lesser known logos I recommend checking out LogoPond or going to your local book store or library and looking at a logo book.

The Not So Successful Logos

We can also learn off logos that have not been as successful such as the ones in the above picture. Some more very bad logos can be seen in the post ‘Is Your Design Phallic? As seen in that post, some logos can depict things that may have not always be noticeable to the designer (as in the middle logo above) or they could just be plain bad design, as in the logo to the right.

4. Establish Your Own Logo Design Process

Design Process

Now that we know what a logo is, and what the principles and rules of logo design are and what makes a successful logo we can now finally begin the design process. This it hardest part of the 5 steps and is its own topic in itself – Each persons logo design process is different and experience usually is the key factor in creating your own logo design process however check out The Secret Logo Design Process Of Top Logo Designers for a better idea.

In short, a logo design process usually consists of

  1. The Design Brief
  2. Research & Brainstorming
  3. Sketching
  4. Prototyping & Conceptualising (See Step 5)
  5. Send To Client For Review
  6. Revise & Add Finishing Touches
  7. Supply Files To Client and Give Customer Service

If you ever get stuck before or during your design process check out this great article on How To Boost Your Creativity.

5. Learn The Software & Complete The Logo

Software

After you have got your design process sorted out, it is usually a good time to begin mastering your software but remember you can’t design a logo by just hopping straight onto the computer… brainstorm and sketch first.

After you have got your initial ideas and sketches from brainstorming you can then usually jump onto the computer to start digitising your logo. After you have got a great concept(s) digitised you can send it to your client, get revisions, and eventually complete the logo and thus, you have successfully created a professional logo.

Do you have any other tips or suggestions on how to create a professional logo?

Finally sold my gundam collection…

SO, today I have finally sold my Gundam collection, it was 14 gundam’s in their box, and a few extras, originally they were bout to a total of around $500 throughout the year, last year. Sold them all for 300 smackers.

I know, why $300 you may ask? This was the only way to get rid of that was sitting in the basement collecting dust, aging, becoming the old. But that was then, this is now…

A year in a half ago I started to get really into the Gundam model scene, buying $12 magazines, $30 to $100 on plastic models, $50 to $100 on model paint and $100 on an airbrush.

While I was playing around with my models I was wasting time and sitting there wasting money like a boy, now I have grown up, I think…

I got a job at Fred Myers in the grocery department, go me!, I started working a 8 hour job and earning money to buy more stuff, then more stuff, mostly food.

Then when I was going and working I started to get too busy to do the thing I like to do anymore, I thought if I was going to do that and that alone I would never have a girlfriend, let alone a fiancé like I do now, crazy what happens in a year.

I thought it was amazing to build them, little things that take hours to build, then hours and hours to customize, which I never really did.

It’s strange, I buy all these models and build maybe one or two, then never paint them, they would sit on myself collecting dust, thick dust. Nasty stuff.

Today I shipped them out, and I really hate Alaska because of the shipping rates, always expensive, it cost an extra $100 to ship 2 boxes to NY, yeah NY is far, well really really far, I almost had to ship them 5 to 7 weeks, weeks I tell you.

But this is alright, I think, the quicker the buyer gets its stuff, the sooner I get my money! Ha-ha…

Now I sit here typing a short story for someone to read possibly.

To be continued….
